2013 Is Here

My name is shawn with an s-h-w-n
and in the middle there's an ahh that's long
I'm comin on king kong strong with a song
kicked off with a trumpet, a rap and a gong
That's a little bit random, I know
but I had to make sho
yo attention was gon' be long <ha ha ha>
So let's get right to this
The beat's tight and so is my lyrical focus.
People say I laugh too loud
I'm arrogant, headstrong, stubborn and proud
I'm kinda unpredictable, a ham for a crowd
With big vision and charisma I've been well-endowed
And I've always made music with a purpose
opening hearts the driving force behind why I do this
And now, today, more than ever before this
I dare all warriors of the heart to ignore this
People say don't preach,
they screech with vanity of youth,
but deep beneath the preen everybody wants truth
& the fact that I'm still singin mine is proof
that the hard-walked path is a deep packed groove
and the truth comes wrapped in a 40-year old voice,
so be it, let the lyric your spirit hoist
my heart beats strong and my lips are moist
Is my stand as a man your command? your choice
I can see it comin...
Some of y'all won't like this new direction of mine
you'll tell me to "lighten up" like think it's the first time
I've been shamed for stepping over some line
cuz when I blow, the fallout blows minds
conscious people don't get angry, violent or loud, right?
they take a deep breath and keep rage in a shroud, right?
pretending all is well turns a dark cloud light
only positive feelings are allowed alright?
But this hip hop attitude is highly intentional
a musical method for making message conversational
our story is the future its scope is supernational
I realize the idea size is crazy and irrational
If you're looking for the nice guy that lightened you up,
he's still here, my dear, but done a bit of growing up
and this new sound's juice for your empty cup
so turn it up and let the boogie in your body erupt

Breath Turns Around
04:28
|

Breathe in
Breathe out
Breathe in
Breathe out
The place where your breath turns around
Where the ground is the sound that you hear when you're still
and illusion falls away
into the eye of the eternal fray
Leaving you with a fresh found clue
where fulfillment can be found
Where your breath turns around
Breath turns around
It's kind of like catching a wave
Sometimes you wait for a while sitting still
with the horizon in your eye
Envisioning the perfect ride
And when the rolling movement comes
you move into its graceful mound
And your breath turns around
Breath turns around
Breathe in
Breathe out
Breathe in
Breathe out
Now we're talkin
Meeting someone new can be similar, too
Your heart can either race the beat or get still
Either way there's work to do
Let me in, I'm being true
All illusions fall away when your feet feel the dirt on the ground
and when your breath turns around
Breath turns around
Breathe in
Breathe out
The place where your breath turns around
Where the ground is the sound that you hear when you're still
and illusion falls away
into the eye of the eternal fray
Leaving you with a clear loud/fresh found clue
where fulfillment can be found
Where your breath turns around
Breath turns around
Breathe in
Breathe out

Troubadour Shawn on the hip-hop tip again
It's been a long time comin since I don't know when
This is for the lovers and it won't be top ten
But it'll do for the crew whose ears are open
Troubadour Shawn here, with another little ditty
with a fat greasy beat that might make you dizzy
You mighta maybe thought I was kidding
but 2013 is here? that was practice hitting
like bangin balls at the batting cages
Stepping up to the plate for what is true through the ages
has always been reserved for only the most courageous
but I'm out to make it mainstream, funky and contagious
I'm walkin around town with a sound all my own
loving life and working hard to get specific and hone
the urgent message in my heart, simple and joyous in tone
standing tall and loose and always honoring my backbone
There's an invitation here so while I've got your ear
first of all thank you for opening to hear
in the clear beyond fear, heart in gear
as your peer I salute you and I'm glad you're near
Troubadour Shawn on the hip-hop tip again
It's been a long time comin since I don't know when
This is for the lovers and it won't be top ten
But it'll do for the crew whose ears are open
When I hear people say that they don't like rap
All I hear them saying is they don't wanna understand black people
Maybe they're afraid, I don't blame them for that
They've been trained by tv dark skin, watch your back
But I'm inspired by this medium, borne in the ghetto
of a primal directive to be heard above the bedlam
Poverty, drugs, guns, and youth spittin at babylon
the rhythm and the story of the sinkholes in our common lawn
In a way I can relate, though I come from greener origins,
striving to be heard above the din can lead better men to sin
and nowadays I hear the clear call to be all-in
lovers and fighters it's always win-win
What does that mean? Well, fighters will fight
and lovers will love and it'll go back and forth all night
and eventually love trumps the need to be right
so the lovers are the ones with the call to unite
Time to get trippin on the hip-hop tip again
(Come together)
It's been a long time comin since I don't know when
(Come together)
This is for the lovers and it won't be top ten
(Come together)
But it'll do for the crew whose ears are open
(Come, come together, right now)
This is a call to the lovers on planet earth
come on come on come on get up
everybody come together right now
it's time
it's time
it's time
I told you at the start I've got an urgent message
We're all in the middle of a great rite of passage
Waking and quaking from within, the shift is massive
learning to create in ways that sometimes look passive
but we're completely engaged, turned on and present
Opening to every moment's gifts, giving life our consent
to enter and open and raise the bar by being content
grateful and honoring, loving and resting when spent
And all the props that we've bought that make it feel like we're bound
Begin to fall away and disappear as we discover the true sound
Of the deep knowing that true stability can only be found
when we're living in our center nice and close to the ground
Allowing all illusions of what was and what shall be
to fall away into a space of possibility
where we create a future that we see
which honors every living being, every rock and every tree

Razor's Edge (Raw Mix)
04:15
|
|||
Laughing with joy, sobbing in sorrow
knowing that I will not see you tomorrow
You moved me, touched me, soothed me, fanned my flame
These eyes of mine will never see the same
All that we shared, everything real
Nothing left hidden, an all-in deal
Now you're gone
Our lives roll on
And it's all right
It's all right
These tears at the razor's edge
strengthen our heartbeats and brighten our light
Kneeling and open, face to the stars
offering thanks with a welcoming heart
to the mystery known by many names
to which I'll one day return from whence I came
All of the shames and the sorrows joys I have known
Washing away face now to the stone
So much to feel
So much to heal
And it's all right
It's all right
These tears at the razor's edge
purify angels preparing for flight
You're a man on a mission, you said with a smile
Perfectly innocent, absent guile
with love and adoration in your face
filling me feeding my hunger for grace
Breathing you in under my skin
Listening close to the whisper within
An all-in deal
playing for real
And it's all right
It's all right
These fears at the razor's edge
show me for what I am willing to fight

Fly (Rough Vocal Mix)
03:06
|
|||
There's so much I want to say
I want to be with you every day
You light up my world when you're around
We go for walks and we talk and we share
everything
I hold your hand and you smile
and if we could make it last forever we could
go on forever
These moments come and go
so I wrote this simple song to let you know
I want to be with you
there is nothing else I could want more
So come take my hand and we will fly into the sky
and in our dreams we will fly
Ahhhhh….

Feel the Sun
03:30
|
|||
Hey there friend, I've got a song to sing
And I think you're gonna like it
It's a simple melody that brings me back to center
Whenever things get complicated
And it goes like this:
I do my work
I feel the sun
I do my best to give and receive love with everyone
And when I fall short I forgive myself
And when others fall short I forgive them
Life can be hard
But it doesn't have to
It can be quite simple
All you have to do is remember what you're here for
And forget everything else
Do your work
And feel the sun
Do your best to give and receive love with everyone
And when you fall short, forgive yourself
And when others fall short forgive them
We've arrived at the moment to choose
We've got everything to gain and everything to lose
We're all the same - different bodies in the game
And everyone wins means we're all included
So what do you think?
Isn't it sweet?
Made me cry when I wrote it
And now I offer it to you a gift from my heart
And I hope you'll sing it loud with me
I do my work
I feel the sun
I do my best to give and receive love with everyone
And when I fall short I forgive myself
And when others fall short I forgive them
